Abu Al-Rub: International Media Committee Takes the Message of Peace from Geneva to the World

Dr. Mohammad Munir Abu Al-Rub, President of the International Arab Institute for Peace and Education – Geneva, Switzerland, affirmed that the formation of the Institute’s Public Relations and International Media Committee represents an important step toward strengthening its media presence and expanding its network of relations at the Arab, regional, and international levels, in a manner that serves its mission of promoting a culture of peace, education, dialogue, and sustainable development.

Abu Al-Rub said that the decision to establish the committee stems from the Institute’s belief in the importance of media and its pivotal role in raising awareness, strengthening communication among peoples and institutions, and conveying humanitarian, educational, and developmental messages to various segments of society. He emphasized that media is no longer merely a means of transmitting news, but has become an essential partner in shaping awareness and building bridges of understanding and peace.

He added that the Institute decided to establish the Public Relations and International Media Committee with the participation of a distinguished group of media professionals and Arab figures from several countries, based on their expertise, qualifications, professional and community experiences, and contributions to serving their countries and the Arab and international media sectors.

Abu Al-Rub explained that the decision to establish the committee was issued in Geneva on September 15, 2026, with Mr. Fayez Al-Shaalan of Kuwait appointed as Chairman, Mr. Mohammad Mohsen Obeidat of Jordan as Vice Chairman, and Mr. Omar Oulad Omar of Morocco as Rapporteur.

The committee’s membership includes Dr. Ali bin Mubarak Al Hanifa of the United Arab Emirates, Ms. Amal Al-Hamed of Yemen, Dr. Jumana Dweikat of Jordan, Mr. Abdulaziz Al-Ghadban of Kuwait, Mr. Othman bin Taleb of Morocco, Mr. Taha Youssef Hassan of Sudan, Ms. Lami Al-Rubaie of Iraq, and Mr. Ahmed Al-Mulla of Kuwait.

He pointed out that the selection of this distinguished group aims to benefit from their professional expertise and media networks and to utilize them in support of the Institute’s objectives. He stressed that the committee will work to strengthen communication with media institutions, prominent figures, and relevant organizations, while promoting the Institute’s mission, programs, initiatives, and activities.

Abu Al-Rub said:

"We are facing a major media responsibility, and we look forward to making this committee an effective Arab platform for communication, cooperation, and the exchange of expertise. We also hope that it will contribute to conveying the message of peace and education to various Arab and international media platforms.”

He added that choosing Geneva as the Institute’s headquarters carries particular significance, as the city hosts a large number of international organizations, diplomatic missions, and United Nations institutions, providing broad opportunities for cooperation, communication, and the establishment of partnerships.

Abu Al-Rub noted that the International Arab Institute for Peace and Education has held consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) since 2024, considering this status an important responsibility that opens broader horizons for the Institute to contribute to issues related to peace, education, development, and media.

He affirmed that the coming period will witness greater attention to the media and communications dimension through the production of media content reflecting the Institute’s activities, highlighting initiatives and projects that serve people and communities, and strengthening cooperation with Arab and international media institutions.

Regarding the selection of Mr. Mohammad Mohsen Obeidat as Vice Chairman of the committee, Abu Al-Rub said that the decision was made in recognition of his media and research experience, his background in journalism and media work, and his interest in cultural, community, and development issues. He noted that these experiences represent an important addition to the committee’s work.

He added that the Institute looks forward to utilizing these capabilities to build a more effective media and communications system capable of reaching relevant institutions and stakeholders and creating new opportunities for cooperation and partnership.

Abu Al-Rub stressed that the success of the committee requires integrated efforts and cooperation among its members, media institutions, governmental bodies, and civil society organizations. He called on all relevant parties to cooperate with the committee and facilitate its mission, enabling it to carry out the responsibilities entrusted to it and achieve the objectives for which it was established.

He said:

"We believe that peace cannot be created by one party alone, and that education, media, and culture are essential tools for building safe and cohesive societies. Therefore, we want media to be a genuine partner in this journey, moving beyond merely reporting events to contributing to shaping awareness, spreading knowledge, and promoting dialogue.”

Abu Al-Rub emphasized that the committee will work to build bridges of communication with journalists and media institutions across the Arab world, while remaining open to relevant international institutions. This, he said, will strengthen the Arab media presence in issues related to peace, education, and sustainable development.

In conclusion, Abu Al-Rub affirmed that the formation of the Public Relations and International Media Committee comes as part of the Institute’s vision to develop its tools, strengthen its presence, and make effective use of Arab talents and expertise. He noted that the coming phase will require greater institutional cooperation and networking in order to build media capable of serving people, peace, and development.

Abu Al-Rub concluded:

We hope that this committee will serve as a model for joint Arab action and contribute to presenting a positive image of Arab competencies and their ability to work and cooperate for peace, education, and development.”
