Zarqa – Professor Dr. Hasan Barmawi, Chairman of the Bulgarian-Jordanian Chamber for Economic Cooperation, accompanied by Dr. Omar Al-Shoubaki, met with Governor of Zarqa Ahmed Barakat Al-Zuhair to congratulate him on his appointment as Governor of Zarqa.

The meeting focused on ways to strengthen Jordanian-Bulgarian economic relations and attract Bulgarian investments to Jordan, particularly Zarqa Governorate. The two sides also discussed building on the twinning agreement signed in 2022 between Zarqa Governorate and Municipality and Pleven Governorate and Municipality in Bulgaria.

Governor Al-Zuhair welcomed efforts to deepen Jordanian-Bulgarian relations and stressed the importance of inviting Bulgarian officials, investors, and companies to visit Zarqa and explore its promising investment opportunities.

He highlighted Zarqa’s strategic importance as a major industrial and economic hub and its proximity to regional markets, including Syria, Iraq, and the Gulf states, in addition to the presence of the Zarqa Free Zone.

For his part, Professor Dr. Barmawi announced plans to organize a forum for Jordanian business leaders in Bulgaria next year, followed by a forum for Bulgarian business leaders in Jordan, with the aim of increasing trade and strengthening investment cooperation between the two countries.

Barmawi also emphasized Jordan’s strategic position as a gateway for Bulgarian exports to Middle Eastern markets, benefiting from the Kingdom’s security and stability under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II.
